Ting Ping and Edward’s Gorgeous Wedding in Capella Singapore

Ting Ping and Edward walked down a fairy light aisle in their gorgeous wedding in Capella Singapore, with 3D projection of their story in the ballroom, and a confetti popper dance party!

When they first met in university, Chen Ting Ping, 32, Programme Manager, and Edward Chua, 33, Partner Technology Manager, discovered that they were total opposites! Over 11 years of dating, they learnt to embrace each other’s strengths and weaknesses. The couple tied the knot in both Singapore and Taiwan, with a gorgeous wedding celebration in Capella Singapore on 29 July 2018, where they walked down a fairy light aisle, and had a confetti popper dance party, beautifully captured by Antelope Studios.

How did you meet each other?

Ting Ping: We met in the National University of Singapore as hall mates, where coincidentally, we were living in the same stack (Edward was in room 411 and I was in room 511). We are two vastly different individuals—Edward is the flashy extrovert while I’m the introverted other. Edward loves chaos and mess while I’m OCD to a T.

It was definitely hard work through the years, learning to embrace and appreciate each other’s strengths and weaknesses. There is definitely a diffusion of traits in both directions. Over the course of 11 years, Edward has gotten tidier and I’ve learnt to accept that mess is part and parcel of life. We always joke that if we were to have a kid in the future and he or she picks up the good traits from both sides, that’ll be one pretty awesome kid!

What do you love most about your partner?

Edward: Her meticulous planning and thoughtfulness.

Ting Ping: His brilliance and impossibly high EQ. It was definitely not love at first sight for either of us but rather, over time, we realised we’re the missing piece that completes the other person’s jigsaw. Now we are simply inseparable!

What was the proposal like?

Ting Ping: The proposal was in Hokkaido, Japan. I was on a business trip and Edward had tagged along. We extended our stay by another week. The sneaky Edward had secretly contacted the resort we were heading to and flew in my best friend plus his sister to help stage the proposal. They even engaged a local events planning team for the overall planning. Needless to say, I was very surprised and blown away considering the Japan trip was decided very last minute, literally two weeks before the trip!

How did you create your wedding?

Ting Ping: The wedding was the result of hours and hours of wedding research. We knew we wanted a wedding focused on our guests, not just another event where people go through the motions of a standard wedding banquet. Hence, we spoke to several vendors that we had shortlisted to seek their professional opinions. This included Bryan, our wedding day photographer from Antelope Studios, who gave us the perfect suggestion to conduct the gatecrash, tea ceremony, solemnisation, and banquet in the same venue if possible. This saved us so much time from having to shuttle between our homes. We googled various wedding planners both locally and overseas for inspiration on what would make a good programme on the actual day and we’re so glad it all worked out!

What was your wedding day like?

Edward: It was definitely an epic day of fun, laughter and a little chaos. Capella Hotel was very accommodating and let us have the gate crash, tea ceremony, and solemnisation all in the same venue. This saved us plenty of time and we could actually start the day at 8am instead of the usual wee hours in the morning.

Ting Ping: Everything just magically fell into place without us having to worry or oversee, a clear sign that our vendors are amazing. They were all working their magic in the background – laying carpets, setting up flowers and backdrops. We did however forget our rings and had to scramble to retrieve them from the hotel villa five minutes before the solemnisation ceremony! It was a lot of joy seeing all our family and friends gathering under one roof and it was very satisfying to hear how they thoroughly enjoyed the programme we’ve prepared for the day.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Ting Ping: Definitely the confetti party! Each one of our guests held a handmade party popper (made by our bridal entourage), gathered around the dance floor, and on the count of three, there was confetti exploding everywhere with dance music blasting in perfect synchronisation.

Wildly in Love–A Wedding Showcase by SingaporeBrides

A week ago, we welcomed a huge crowd of couples to our Wildly in Love wedding showcase for a lovely afternoon of modern botanical inspiration, exclusive perks by creative vendors, and over $9,000 worth of lucky draw prizes!

On Saturday, 23 February 2019, SingaporeBrides presented a wedding showcase for those who are wildly in love and unafraid to show it! Hosted with support from Conrad Centennial Singapore, the Wildly in Love wedding showcase was an exciting afternoon packed full of modern botanical inspiration, beautiful gowns and bridesmaid dresses, flower bar fun, an exquisite dessert bar, photo booth memories, and a lucky draw with over $9,000 of prizes!

Wildly in Love was held in Conrad Centennial Singapore’s new Junior Ballroom—The Pavilion. A stunning and intimate event space inspired by a glass box design, The Pavilion features three full-length glass walls that fill the venue with natural light and offer views of the greenery and pool just outside.

The new wedding venue was beautifully styled for the showcase by wedding planner The Wedding Stylist, with an exquisite and organic floral centerpiece and floral bar by Bucket Full of Roses. Couples were delighted to be able to craft their very own bouquets from the beautiful flowers daintily set out in glass tubes at the interactive floral bar.

Taking centre stage as well was the incredible dessert showcase with a live nitrogen ice cream station by Conrad Centennial Singapore’s pastry chefs, who created frozen pina coladas to order. Offering inspiration for a statement-making wedding dessert showcase, the centrepiece was laden with exquisite creations such as strawberry tarts, dark chocolate mousse with lemon meringue, and deconstructed cakes. A colourful donut wall and macaron wall added to the striking display. The 240 couples who attended the Wildly in Love showcase were also treated to butler-served canapés of the hotel’s wedding menu highlights, along with refreshing mocktails and glasses of wine.

Showcasing creative and modern vendors, Wildly in Love helped couples personalise their weddings to truly tell their story. Brides were inspired by the beautiful wedding gowns showcased by designers Amanda Lee Weddings and Dang Bridal, and had a fun time trying on bridesmaids dresses by The Thread Theory. John Lim Photography showcased dramatic overseas pre-wedding photography and actual day photography, while Lin Studios talked to couples about beautiful and modern wedding films and portraiture sessions.

Pine on Paper featured beautiful artisan invitation suites and bespoke options, and Autelier Makeup gave hair and makeup demonstrations to help brides picture their look for their big day. The couples also had a chance to bring home a photo memento of their wedding planning journey at Uniquebooth.sg’s photo booth, where giant balloon props added to the fun.

Besides enjoying the showcases in The Pavilion, the couples were invited on a tour of Conrad Centennial Singapore’s other wedding venues, such as the Dome just beside the ballroom, which was prettily set up for a solemnisation with a lush floral arch by Bucket Full of Roses and tiffany chairs by XOXO.

To complete the lovely afternoon and make their weddings even more special, couples enjoyed exclusive perks such as 15% off gown rental by Amanda Lee Weddings, $1,888 off wedding dinners at Conrad Centennial Singapore, and 10% off bridesmaids apparel by The Thread Theory.

Every couple who attended was also entitled to a chance at our Lucky Draw, and those who made a purchase at the event received an additional chance to win. The prize draws were conducted by SingaporeBrides CEO Mr. Ng Chin Leng and Conrad Centennial Singapore Commercial Director Mr. Timothy Tan, and seventeen lucky couples walked away with over $9,000 worth of amazing prizes, including a white wedding gown by Dang Bridal worth $2,000, a pre-wedding portraiture shoot by John Lim Photography worth $1,080, and $250 photo booth vouchers from Uniquebooth.sg!

We want to say a big thank you to all the creative vendors and soon-to-wed couples who made this showcase such a huge success! We hope you enjoyed Wildly in Love as much as we did.

Anishka and Brady’s Elegant, Mixed Culture Wedding at Sinfonia Ristorante

Anishka and Brady tied the knot in church and celebrated with an elegant Sinfonia Ristorante wedding reception.

Anishka Pereira, 30, Sales Account Manager in Aviation IT, and Brady Mozhdehi, 47, Associate Director, IMS, Pratt & Whitney, fell in love at work. After braving long distance for most of the their relationship, the couple got engaged during a trip to New Orleans. They celebrated their union with a church wedding and lunch reception at Village Hotel Changi, and again with a dinner reception at Sinfonia Ristorante in Victoria Concert Hall on 30 June 2018.

How did you meet?

Brady: We met when we were both working in the same company in Singapore. I’ll admit that I didn’t notice her much at first because things were always so busy. I got to know Anishka better over time as we worked on a few different items, and found myself drawn to her beautiful smile and quick wit. Collaboration on work projects evolved into hallway conversations, then communication outside of work. We both say that we were good friends before the relationship progressed.

What do you love most about your partner?

Anishka: I love that he always tries. Most of our relationship has been long distance, but I felt even closer to him because he gives it his all in this relationship. He has a busy job and many commitments, and yet I always feel that I’m his priority. I actually don’t give him much credit for that but I plan to do so for the rest of our lives together.

Brady: I love her drive and determination. Anishka is one of the most effective people I’ve ever met at getting things accomplished. Our beautiful wedding is a perfect example of her capabilities. I also really love the way she always makes me feel loved. Long distance relationships are difficult, and Anishka always seems to know what to do to keep things fresh and fun. She’ll surprise me with heartfelt notes and gestures.

What was the proposal like?

Anishka: I had two proposals. For the first one, the ring didn’t fit so I made him do it again. He then did it when we were in New Orleans. It was very intimate and special.

Brady: I had grand ideas for the proposals, but distance was a challenge, and the time passed so quickly that I was boarding a plane to Singapore before I knew it. I also messed up the ring size the first time, which was such a disappointment, because I knew that it would be a few months before I had another chance to propose. The second time was low key, and really nice.

How did you create your wedding?

Anishka: Having been to many banquet weddings, the one thing I didn’t like was how the attention was never always on the bride and groom. We wanted something small and intimate. My inspiration was one of my friends’ wedding. She only had about sixty people at a villa in Phuket and it was absolutely amazing.

Given that Brady was in the US and perhaps could not help out as much, we decided to hire a wedding planner. We chose The Wedding Stylist and our planner, Wenxin, was absolutely amazing at helping us choose our vendors. I can understand that having a planner is a luxury, but it’s money well spent because she gave us many insights and ideas that we didn’t even think of. Also many of our guests commented on how smooth and organised our wedding was and it was all because of Wenxin and her team. All our vendors were great and gave great attention to detail. Some of the vendors were our friends who were just starting their business, so we wanted to support them too. The groomsmen’s suit rental was not a bright spot in our planning, as suit selection was not as advertised, and we had to make a lot of last minute adjustments.

We also wanted to mix as much culture into our wedding as possible. So, for example, even though neither of us is Chinese, we decided to have a gatecrash. Brady is half Iranian, and we also tried to infuse his heritage into the food that was served during dinner. I’m also a huge Harry Potter fan, so our guest book, ring dish and shoe decal had Harry Potter inspired themes. We wanted our family members to feel very special and gave them gifts to show just that. My father, for example, had personalised cufflinks, which had a picture of me as a baby with him. Brady’s dad had the same thing.

Brady: It was very difficult for me to participate in the planning as I would have liked, so we hired a wedding planner, who turned out to be really great at her job! We also made extensive use of Whatsapp for messaging on all details, and Facetime so I could see venues and other details when a decision had to be made outside of one of my trips to Singapore. There was always a list of things to do whenever I’d visit, and we would make final decisions on major things when I was there. The planning was a bit of a challenge at times, but not impossible.

What was your wedding day like?

Anishka: It was a blurry blast. I woke up at about 4am to start makeup! Then came the gatecrash which was so fun, based on the pictures I saw. I then had family prayers before heading to church. The service was very emotional. Father Fernandez gave an excellent sermon and gave us four phrases that would stop any fight: “I was wrong. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. I love you.”

After many rounds of pictures and also a wedding party shoot, we then had lunch at Village Hotel Changi. They did an amazing job with the food. However, I had no time to eat any of it as we were busy talking to our guests and taking more photos. Our dinner reception was at Sinfonia Ristorante in Victoria Concert Hall and it was so elegant. It was absolutely beautiful. The food was great and our emcee was fantastic. He kept the guests laughing non-stop. Again, I wish I had more time to actually eat. We then had an after party at a Bollywood club called Phresh. So it was a crazy, tiring day. I actually wish I could go back and do it all again.

I’m also very grateful to everyone who came from around the world. My 90-year-old grandma came from India. Brady’s parents had a long trip from the US. We also had friends and family that joined us from the Netherlands, Ireland, Canada, Australia, Spain, Thailand, India, Malaysia, and New Zealand.

Brady: Our wedding day was incredible! All the planning and hard work resulted in a day that was enjoyed by all. The venues were all set up perfectly, and the vendors all did such a great job for us. Many people told me during the wedding and afterwards that it was the best wedding they’d ever attended, which was great to hear. Of course, the best part about our wedding day was finally marrying my best friend and love of my life in the presence of friends and family.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Anishka: Saying my vows to Brady in front of God and our family and friends. It just made everything seem so real.

Brady: I’ll never forget the emotion I felt when I saw Anishka walking down the aisle in her beautiful white dress. I was overcome with happiness, and emotion. Anishka also prepared a video montage from some of my US friends who could not attend, which was a huge surprise, and very sweet and special.

Michelin Star Weddings at Alma by Juan Amador

If you’re a foodie and hosting your wedding at a Michelin-starred restaurant has been on your mind for a while, we’ve got great news for you. Alma by Juan Amador is very approachable and serves excellent fusion cuisine that all your guests can definitely appreciate.

The man who lends his name to the restaurant, Juan Amador, is sometimes described as the best chef in the world. He is of Spanish descent, but he honed his skills in Germany, which was where he earned his first Michelin star. Marrying his Spanish roots and his sharp sense of aesthetics, Juan Amador’s signature style can be seen in the dishes he creates, and he would later go on to achieve three Michelin stars in 2011, an outstanding culinary achievement for any chef.

Alma by Juan Amador, situated at Goodwood Park Hotel, is helmed by Executive Chef Haikal Johari, who brings with him a distinguished culinary career from all over the region. This results in the menu you will see at Alma, which is made up of the freshest ingredients, infused with the Asian flavours that you are familiar with. Alma received its first Michelin star in 2016 and has kept it for three consecutive years.

The Food

We were invited to taste a few dishes from their lunch menu, which starts at an affordable $39++. The interior of the restaurant was minimally furnished, with crisp, white table linen as seen in all fine-dining restaurants, and accented with red pillars and avant-garde art pieces. The restaurant can host a wedding of up to 100 guests. What was more interesting for me were the two private rooms, The Cellar, and the Wine Library. If you’re looking to have an intimate do, and great food and wine is a deal-breaker, then this is it. As one of the biggest American wine importers in Singapore, wine lovers can find excellent rated wines, as well as a prized collection of Screaming Eagle wines, which are a highly rated cult brand produced in Napa Valley.

Although there didn’t seem to be a theme to the four-course meal we had, it was a meal full of pleasant surprises, and I would return again just for the Mara de Bois Strawberry and Crispy Tofu, which is a signature of Executive Chef Johari.

The gazpacho was sweet, tangy, and savoury at the same time, which was a refreshing appetiser to start the meal with. We were also pleasantly surprised by the homemade tofu. The skin was deep fried to perfection, and there is no faulting the rich foie gras emulsion that complements the gentle texture of the tofu.

The hearty cod fish from the coast of Brittany was paired with subtle Japanese flavours, while the lamb was served with fragrant spiced curry. This, perhaps, was Executive Chef Johari’s playful and direct way of showcasing an East-Meets-West menu.
