Cara and Andy’s Ethereal, Blue-Hued Wedding at The St. Regis Singapore

Cara and Andy tied the knot in a beautiful St. Regis Singapore wedding in ethereal shades of blue, with a fairy light and ribbon canopy, a decadent dessert table, and lots of love!

Cara Teo, 31, Dentist and Co-Founder of Props & Crafts, and Andy Tang, 31, Equity Trader, first met when she whacked him in the face with a pen! The couple started dating in junior college and have been together for half their lives. On 19 May 2018, Cara and Andy celebrated their union with a beautiful wedding at The St. Regis Singapore, with romantic overhead fairy lights and blue ribbons, a decadent dessert and ice cream spread, and the love of their family and friends, captured by Antelope Studios.

How did you meet?

Cara: Andy and I met each other in junior college on the first day of school during orientation. He sat directly behind me in the school hall during our morning assembly. As we were passing the attendance form to tick our names, I tossed the pen and paper towards the back and whacked him in the face. I heard an “Ouch”, so I turned around to apologise; and when I saw him, it was love at first sight, at least for me! After the first day, I went round telling all my girlfriends that I found someone I really liked.

We got together shortly after and have been together ever since. It was both his and my first and only real relationship. We’ve been together for almost half of our lives. We have weathered through the good and the bad times, and yet after all these years of growing up and growing old, we both concluded that we are still better together.

Andy: When I first met Cara, it definitely wasn’t love at first sight for me. But I started taking notice of her after one week into orientation, when we went out together as a group. We sat beside each other and started talking. I realised that we clicked well and she looked really pretty when she smiled and laughed.

You’ve been together a long time! Share with us a particularly memorable moment in your journey.

Cara: My mum has always been very protective, so Andy and I dated for one year without her knowledge. During our first year of dating, Andy wanted to surprise me, so he asked if I could get out of the house for awhile. I crept out of the house and he surprised me with a whole cake. We walked to Bukit Batok Nature Park, and sat under a pavilion to eat the cake. Then I took the remaining messed up, half-eaten cake, placed it back into the box and brought it home. I sneaked in through the back door, shoved the cake box into the fridge, and went back to study.

To my horror, my mum went into the kitchen and I heard the fridge door opening. I dashed back to the kitchen and saw her opening the fridge and smiling at the cake box. Then it hit me that my mum thought that I had secretly run out of the house to buy a cake for her because her birthday was the next day. I scurried back to my room, and messaged Andy, “Oh nooo, I shouldn’t have brought the cake home! Now my mum thinks that I bought a cake for her birthday tomorrow!”

Then I waited and waited and I got no response from him, only to hear my mum laughing from across the house. She then came into my room with her phone, showed me the text that was meant for Andy and asked me if I sent the message to the wrong person!

So that’s how my mum found out that I had a boyfriend. My mum even told me that she had opened the cake box and felt confused as to why her birthday cake was half-eaten.

What do you love most about your partner?

Andy: She has the most beautiful heart and the kindest soul. She is always putting others before herself, and is also fiercely loyal. When I was at the lowest point of my life, she stood by me to support and encourage me. She has always believed in me.

How did you create your St. Regis Singapore wedding?

Cara: The different shades of blue have always been my favourite colours, and I also love white peonies, which happened to be in season during our wedding. I wanted to create something that was romantically blue, and that had a tinge of boho-chicness. I used SingaporeBrides and other wedding sites for inspiration for my wedding!

As the co-founder of Props & Crafts, I am so used to setting up and styling other people’s weddings, that it was hard to be 100% not in control of the wedding decor on the day itself.

Bearing in mind that I couldn’t be there to set up my own wedding, I started sourcing for props one year before the wedding and planning the design with both my co-founder and a good friend of mine who is a florist, The Blue Thistle. We went through the concept and drawings a few times and we got a few more vendors to help spruce up the overall wedding decor layout.

All the wedding vendors that we engaged were really awesome!Bryan from Antelope Studios and Sam from Simple Motion Videography were really very enthusiastic and passionate and it shows in the work they produce. We hired Creamier Handcrafted, Cupplets, and Winifred Kristé Cake to provide desserts and ice-cream. We got Gift of Grace Designs and Common Hands to help out with the backdrop and welcome signage. Inside the Knot did the fairy lights in the The St. Regis Singapore ballroom. Sonia and Dennis from Juillet Official did the dresses for my bridesmaids and they looked super gorgeous that day.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Cara: Having a wonderful family and bridal team to see me through the entire process of the wedding celebration was a great blessing to me. My family and close friends have always been an integral part of my life and form who I am as a person. They are very important to me and are irreplaceable. Seeing them come together to lend a helping hand wherever and whenever possible during the wedding and blessing us with their talents and time, was very heartwarming to me.

There’s this special image that I will always remember, where my partner and co-founder of Props & Crafts, who was 10 months pregnant then, was packing up and tearing down the wedding decorations at the end of the celebration. And everyone that I loved, and their other halves, all came together and were busy helping to tidy up along with her. That moment, I felt immensely loved. It’s an overwhelming feeling.

Andy: I have always wanted a simple and small wedding so this wasn’t what I envisioned my wedding to be like. But I would say the wedding day passed very quickly and smoothly. The decorations and “extras” were nice but they were not the highlight of the day. The most memorable part of the wedding was when I saw her in her wedding dress. She was smiling and she was so beautiful both inside and out, I knew for sure that this was the woman I wanted to marry.

9 Gorgeous Fall/Winter 2019 Wedding Dress Trends You Have to See

Preview the latest crop of 2019 wedding dresses by Singapore’s foremost wedding dress designers and bridal boutiques in our Fall/Winter 2019 Lookbook!

Our Fall/Winter 2019 Lookbook is filled with the season’s newest and most beautiful wedding dresses by amazing designers and boutiques in Singapore. This season, we’re seeing some new wedding dress trends inspiring the designs, while old trends take on a fresh twist.

A classic wedding dress material, this season lace becomes much more delicate and ethereal. Blush still reigns as the most romantic colour, but toned down to the merest hint this season. New trends emerged as well, such as playfully exaggerated sleeves in cloud-like layers of tulle. Ball gowns are given a fresh take, with clean lines and ballerina-inspired bodices. The designers also took inspiration from the Duchess Meghan Markle’s minimalist wedding dress and reception dress, with sleek, unadorned silhouettes. Brides getting married in 2019, these are the latest 2019 wedding dress trends you need to know!

1. Delicately Layered Lace

Lace is a timeless fabric choice of wedding dress designers, and we’ve seen many lace fashions over the seasons. From the bold, almost geometric baroque designs favoured just a few years ago, lace wedding dresses have transformed yet again, this time taking a delicate and ethereal style. Layering beautiful floral designs with modern polka-dotted lace and ethereal tulle, and cut in clean silhouettes, 2019’s lace wedding dresses capture grace and femininity in a contemporary style.

2. Playfully Exaggerated Sleeves

Big, exaggerated sleeves make a statement this season, keeping a light and whimsical feel with fluffy layers of tulle. Brides who are looking for a different silhouette, this is a great way to express your style.

3. A Hint of Blush

Blush has been romancing the hearts of brides for years now, and shows no signs of stopping. This season, we see the hue in delicate shades that just barely offset white lace designs, or peek out from a fishtail skirt’s godets to add a breath of fresh colour to traditional white.

4. 3D Florals

Floral applique has adorned many a wedding dress, but this season, we see the trend in three dimensions. The 3D florals give the gowns a beautiful texture, and the illusion of flowers floating down upon a bride on a breezy spring day.

5. Showing Some Skin

The illusion wedding dress trend isn’t going anywhere yet, but we’re also seeing subtler ways to show some skin. A tulle cut-out at the waist or a fun crop top can be ways to bare a little skin without revealing too much.

Beautiful Love Wedding Yvonne Creative Bridal

6. Vintage Romance

We’re also seeing a return to classic silhouettes and styles. Vintage necklines like the portrait or a bateau in lace frame the face in a timeless elegance. Scrolling baroque details hint at Renaissance romance, while floral lace give a bohemian, seventies vibe.

7. Allover Sparkle

Seen on many bridal fashion runways, the allover sparkle wedding dress trend has gowns shimmering in full sequins, beading, or subtle and ethereal glitter.

8. Modern Ball Gowns

Inspired by the royalty of yesteryear with their grand ball gown skirts and luxurious layers, this season takes the princess silhouette and makes it modern by juxtaposing the big skirts with clean bodices in plunging v-necks, or petite ballerina-like corsets.

9. Meghan Markle Minimalism

Minimalism has been a rising wedding dress trend for a while now, and the Duchess Meghan Markle’s stunning wedding gown choices a few months ago made the trend even hotter. This season, we see local designs inspired by sleek, chic, minimalist lines.

Brenda and Hon Tian’s Tamarind Hill Wedding with an Under the Sea Theme

Brenda and Hon Tian exchanged vows in a casual and relaxed Tamarind Hill wedding with an under the sea theme, where she wore a blue wedding dress inspired by a mermaid.

Brenda Tan, 31, Jewellery Maker and Designer of WhereBilly, and Gan Hon Tian, 33, Cyber Security Analyst tied the knot on 11 November 2017 in a relaxed and casual Tamarind Hill wedding. The couple celebrated with a beautiful under the sea theme, and the bride wore a blue wedding dress inspired by a mermaid, designed by Amanda Lee Weddings!

How did you meet?

Brenda: We met in school during our university days. His friend introduced us, and it was love at first sight for me. He didn’t feel the same.

What do you love most about your partner?

Brenda: I was first attracted to his looks and his build. I love that he always tolerates me and loves me unconditionally. I love that I can be totally honest and be my true self when I am with him.

What was the proposal like?

Brenda: It was a surprise in a hotel while we were having a holiday in Bangkok. He planned with the staff and decorated our hotel room. It was a cozy, private affair.

How did you create your wedding?

Brenda: I wanted an under the sea theme. I also imagined myself as a mermaid. I have always felt that white gowns were too mainstream, and I wanted something special in my favourite color, blue. So, I got Pearlyn from Amanda Lee Weddings to design my blue wedding dress! I did all the designing, coordinating and planning for the wedding. He simply pays. That is the best way to avoid conflict of interest.

What was your wedding day like?

Brenda: Our wedding day was very casual. It turned out how I imagined it to be. There was no formal emcee. My sister helped to gather the guests for our march in. I made my own announcements over the mic. Everybody just walked around, mingled, and had fun. It was a super informal wedding. During the wedding, my husband and I were just walking around separately talking to our close friends and relatives like in any other gathering. I think my guests felt really relaxed as well.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Brenda: I think the most memorable moment was during our vow exchange. I can’t exactly remember what he said in his vows, but I was touched by him just being there for me physically and spiritually.

Amanda Lee Weddings S/S 2019 at Mandarin Orchard Singapore

Last month, Amanda Lee Weddings launched their Spring/Summer 2019 collection at Mandarin Orchard Singapore, where they showcased not only elegant and romantic gowns, but also some stylish men’s suits that are far from conventional.

Amanda Lee Weddings was invited to present their latest collection in the Grand Mandarin Ballroom of Mandarin Orchard Singapore during their Dream Weddings showcase in October. The pillarless ballroom with its opulent chandeliers was the perfect backdrop for the designer team’s new pieces, which brings to mind uniqueness and drama, but in soft, romantic colours.

For this new collection, the Amanda Lee Weddings team experimented with unconventional bridal fabrics from the Liberty London luxury fabrics collection, which is a treasure trove of prints on a plethora of materials, such as silks and velvets. Inspired by the prints, the team further embellished the new pieces with intricate beadwork and unexpected embroidery, as well as soft tulle and French lace, which has always been a signature of Amanda Lee Weddings.

Men’s suits were also given an updated look using this season’s plaids and prints, but in youthful colours and modern haberdashery. They are less formal than what you may have been to, but I think they are wonderful for bringing out the personalities of the groom yet he can still be as dashing as ever with a good, tailored look.

After the show, the guests were able to mingle around the ballroom to check out the new wedding themes launched by Mandarin Orchard Singapore as they were treated to a scrumptious spread prepared by the award-winning culinary team. They were also invited to explore the other venues within the hotel, such as the amphitheatre-style Imperial Ballroom, with a foyer that can be used for solemnisations and cocktails. For a more intimate celebration, the smaller Grange Ballroom would be an ideal location.

There were many other vendors present at the event as well, including MakeUp Pros, Nineteen Design Studios, Ling Jewellery, Scent by Six, and Merry Bees, who filled the ballroom with lively music throughout the event.

Amanda Lee Weddings is located at 46 Niven Road, Singapore 228394 (by appointment only). Contact them at +65 6333 6678 or [email protected].

Joanne and Vic’s Magical Wedding at Crowne Plaza Airport Hotel

Joanne and Vic walked into the newest chapter of their love story in a beautiful Crowne Plaza wedding, surrounded by friends and family.

After a surprise proposal in Tokyo, Joanne Zheng, 27, Creative Associate, and Vic Toh, 30, Global Development, documented their love in a sweet pre-wedding session with Z Wedding Design, and exchanged their vows in front of loving family and friends at their Crowne Plaza wedding on 15 March 2018.

How did you meet?

We met in church and secondary school.

What do you love most about your partner?

Vic: Her cheerfulness and authenticity.

Joanne: His humour, logical sense, and thoughtfulness.

What was the proposal like?

Joanne: While I was working in Tokyo, Vic surprised me during his work trip by extending the stay to show me a video he had made. With the help of my colleagues, he surprised me with the video and came into the office with flowers and a ring.

How did you create your wedding?

Joanne: We signed up for the package with Z Wedding Design mainly because of the trust which we established with Louise Gan during a wedding show. She felt like an elder sister to me, guiding us through the panicky process of planning a wedding. After the show, we reviewed Z Wedding Design’s photos online and liked their concepts, and so decided to sign up with them.

What was your wedding day like?

Vic: It was beautiful.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Vic: The wedding vows got me choked up…either in tears of joy or because of the folly of marriage. Hahaha.

Joanne: Having all the people that matter to me witnessing the most important day of my life, and entering in to a new journey with the person I love.

Colour Me Intrigued: A Quirky, Colourful Styled Shoot

What’s your wedding colour? Exploring colour symbolism and mood, this styled shoot plays with various hues in quirky sets, to inspire you to discover your own colour personality.

Today’s styled shoot editorial is an eccentric, quirky burst of colour! Fascinated by the subject of colour and how different hues are associated with complex ideas and moods, the team set out to explore how colour works. “Your choice of wedding colours tends to be a subconscious reflection of your personality,” share stylists Larry and Jophia from HellofromFlour. “Colours represent what’s within us and send the message of our personality, persona, affection, and love, so what colour are you?

”

In eight exaggerated scenes, the team explored the various moods colour evokes. The unconventional and quirky sets are each designed around one colour and vibe, and seek to investigate what colour means, and how they reflect personality. With pockets of space with different lighting and aesthetic qualities that could accommodate eight looks, Another Studio was the perfect venue for the exploration.

“We had a wonderful team of really passionate and talented creative folks who went wild, trying and exploring new and quirky ideas with us,” say Larry and Jophia. With just rough direction, they had full creative control and everyone of them worked their magic, interpreted and translated colours in their own way.” HellofromFlour thought up the concept and space styling, Pout and Chow did the food styling, and A Brush with Mel painted the watercolours.

Amanda Lee Online and Amanda Lee Weddings provided the stylish wardrobe. 27a.co by Marie Soh completed model Mei Yue’s look with hair and makeup styling. Silk ribbons by Eirene Artisan, pastries by L’eclair by Sarah Michelle, and flowers supplied by GG Fresh Flowers finished the sets. Everything was captured by Bittersweet Photography. “The sets were all slightly exaggerated, with random objects such as a hotpot, guppies, a humidifier, and a weighing scale, that we never ever thought would be useful for a shoot,” Larry and Jophia share. “The random use of objects made this shoot eccentric, and exceptionally fun.”

The team hope that this editorial will help you couples better understand yourselves through colour, and inspire you to concoct your own colour recipes!

Many thanks to the team for sharing this with us!
