Cara and Andy’s Ethereal, Blue-Hued Wedding at The St. Regis Singapore

Cara and Andy tied the knot in a beautiful St. Regis Singapore wedding in ethereal shades of blue, with a fairy light and ribbon canopy, a decadent dessert table, and lots of love!

Cara Teo, 31, Dentist and Co-Founder of Props & Crafts, and Andy Tang, 31, Equity Trader, first met when she whacked him in the face with a pen! The couple started dating in junior college and have been together for half their lives. On 19 May 2018, Cara and Andy celebrated their union with a beautiful wedding at The St. Regis Singapore, with romantic overhead fairy lights and blue ribbons, a decadent dessert and ice cream spread, and the love of their family and friends, captured by Antelope Studios.

How did you meet?

Cara: Andy and I met each other in junior college on the first day of school during orientation. He sat directly behind me in the school hall during our morning assembly. As we were passing the attendance form to tick our names, I tossed the pen and paper towards the back and whacked him in the face. I heard an “Ouch”, so I turned around to apologise; and when I saw him, it was love at first sight, at least for me! After the first day, I went round telling all my girlfriends that I found someone I really liked.

We got together shortly after and have been together ever since. It was both his and my first and only real relationship. We’ve been together for almost half of our lives. We have weathered through the good and the bad times, and yet after all these years of growing up and growing old, we both concluded that we are still better together.

Andy: When I first met Cara, it definitely wasn’t love at first sight for me. But I started taking notice of her after one week into orientation, when we went out together as a group. We sat beside each other and started talking. I realised that we clicked well and she looked really pretty when she smiled and laughed.

You’ve been together a long time! Share with us a particularly memorable moment in your journey.

Cara: My mum has always been very protective, so Andy and I dated for one year without her knowledge. During our first year of dating, Andy wanted to surprise me, so he asked if I could get out of the house for awhile. I crept out of the house and he surprised me with a whole cake. We walked to Bukit Batok Nature Park, and sat under a pavilion to eat the cake. Then I took the remaining messed up, half-eaten cake, placed it back into the box and brought it home. I sneaked in through the back door, shoved the cake box into the fridge, and went back to study.

To my horror, my mum went into the kitchen and I heard the fridge door opening. I dashed back to the kitchen and saw her opening the fridge and smiling at the cake box. Then it hit me that my mum thought that I had secretly run out of the house to buy a cake for her because her birthday was the next day. I scurried back to my room, and messaged Andy, “Oh nooo, I shouldn’t have brought the cake home! Now my mum thinks that I bought a cake for her birthday tomorrow!”

Then I waited and waited and I got no response from him, only to hear my mum laughing from across the house. She then came into my room with her phone, showed me the text that was meant for Andy and asked me if I sent the message to the wrong person!

So that’s how my mum found out that I had a boyfriend. My mum even told me that she had opened the cake box and felt confused as to why her birthday cake was half-eaten.

What do you love most about your partner?

Andy: She has the most beautiful heart and the kindest soul. She is always putting others before herself, and is also fiercely loyal. When I was at the lowest point of my life, she stood by me to support and encourage me. She has always believed in me.

How did you create your St. Regis Singapore wedding?

Cara: The different shades of blue have always been my favourite colours, and I also love white peonies, which happened to be in season during our wedding. I wanted to create something that was romantically blue, and that had a tinge of boho-chicness. I used SingaporeBrides and other wedding sites for inspiration for my wedding!

As the co-founder of Props & Crafts, I am so used to setting up and styling other people’s weddings, that it was hard to be 100% not in control of the wedding decor on the day itself.

Bearing in mind that I couldn’t be there to set up my own wedding, I started sourcing for props one year before the wedding and planning the design with both my co-founder and a good friend of mine who is a florist, The Blue Thistle. We went through the concept and drawings a few times and we got a few more vendors to help spruce up the overall wedding decor layout.

All the wedding vendors that we engaged were really awesome!Bryan from Antelope Studios and Sam from Simple Motion Videography were really very enthusiastic and passionate and it shows in the work they produce. We hired Creamier Handcrafted, Cupplets, and Winifred Kristé Cake to provide desserts and ice-cream. We got Gift of Grace Designs and Common Hands to help out with the backdrop and welcome signage. Inside the Knot did the fairy lights in the The St. Regis Singapore ballroom. Sonia and Dennis from Juillet Official did the dresses for my bridesmaids and they looked super gorgeous that day.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding?

Cara: Having a wonderful family and bridal team to see me through the entire process of the wedding celebration was a great blessing to me. My family and close friends have always been an integral part of my life and form who I am as a person. They are very important to me and are irreplaceable. Seeing them come together to lend a helping hand wherever and whenever possible during the wedding and blessing us with their talents and time, was very heartwarming to me.

There’s this special image that I will always remember, where my partner and co-founder of Props & Crafts, who was 10 months pregnant then, was packing up and tearing down the wedding decorations at the end of the celebration. And everyone that I loved, and their other halves, all came together and were busy helping to tidy up along with her. That moment, I felt immensely loved. It’s an overwhelming feeling.

Andy: I have always wanted a simple and small wedding so this wasn’t what I envisioned my wedding to be like. But I would say the wedding day passed very quickly and smoothly. The decorations and “extras” were nice but they were not the highlight of the day. The most memorable part of the wedding was when I saw her in her wedding dress. She was smiling and she was so beautiful both inside and out, I knew for sure that this was the woman I wanted to marry.

Annabel and Joel’s Gorgeous Bali Pre-Wedding Photography Session

Annabel and Joel’s stunning Bali pre-wedding photography session is filled with glorious mountaintop sunsets, pink beaches, and tropical jungle swings!

Annabel and Joel met playing the same sport, underwater rugby. The adventurous couple went to breathtaking locations in Bali for their pre-wedding shoot with Darren and Jade Photography, which felt more like a holiday! They climbed mountains for stunning sunset views of two bays, had a huge swing in the tropical jungle, and relaxed on a pink beach. Get inspired by their beautiful Bali pre-wedding photography adventure in the story below!

How did you two meet?

Joel: We both play the same sport, underwater rugby, and we’re both members of the same club. But oddly enough the first time we actually met was at a gaming session by the club members. After a couple of sessions, I found out that she stayed near me ,and I took the opportunity to offer her a ride home. That’s how it started, and then I began texting her more frequently.

Annabel: I was inactive in my underwater rugby sports club for about half a year due to work and some other commitments. I still hung out with my friends from the club outside of the training sessions from time to time and they invited me for a Lan Gaming session. During my period of inactivity, Joel joined the club.

I showed up at the Lan session a little early and there he was, a stranger to me. The first impression wasn’t the most positive one. I mean, he was actually gawking at me for a bit. I felt pretty uncomfortable… until my friend actually spoke up about it and asked him to back off. Haha! It was quite embarrassing for the both of us.

I started going back for underwater rugby training and what do you know, Joel lived near me and had been offering all who lived nearby a ride to training. (Okay, he didn’t know I stayed nearby. And he didn’t have feelings for me then.) Of course I took up the offer. I could sleep in for 30 minutes more, which to me was like, “Hallelujah!”

So from then, whenever there was training, I would ride with him. He would pick me up from my house and send me home after. And in these car rides, we would talk and share our views of the world.

What made you fall in love with your partner?

Annabel: He is really caring and nice to everyone, not just to me. He’s also really witty and funny.

Joel: She can be quite the crazy person, and her humour and her mad-capped, fun-loving attitude was the key draw for me. Also, she was a great conversationalist which made my interactions with her very interesting. As I got to know her better, I got to see her more serious, logical, and deep-thinking side, and it impressed me. The more I saw both sides of her, the more I felt that she was the one.

What was the proposal like?

Annabel: I knew it was coming because he wasn’t good at hiding things. He was so obvious because he was so insistent on me blocking a particular day off for him. We went for a date at a selfie studio and we had some fun taking some photos with some props. Midway, he told me he had to go get something, which I believed, because he is pretty forgetful. When he came back in, he had flowers and the ring, and was followed by a big group of our underwater rugby friends.

I was pretty surprised because we had training that day before our date and all of them were pretending not to know about the proposal, asking me questions like, “Oh where are you going later, you look nice today.”

Joel: I’ve got to give credit to one of our friends from underwater rugby. He told me to be different and not go with the run-of-the-mill dinner and propose. He suggested I try to do it at a photo studio and surprise her there. I sourced out a selfie studio, where we could go and take our own photos. I surprised her there, while we were supposed to be changing into onesies to take nonsense fun shots. I proposed to her while she was wearing that. I brought some of our friends along to enjoy the moment with us. They forced me into a onesie to take a photo of me on one knee. Thankfully there are no pictures of me initially asking the question, as we both looked quite unglamorous crying so hard. Haha. I guess that until our wedding it was the best day of my life.

Where did you go for your pre-wedding shoot?

Joel: We had initially decided on Melbourne, but due to some logistics issue we had to cancel that idea. Darren and Jade suggested Padar and Bali, as they had been there before. Their Bali pre-wedding photography looked awesome, so with a little bit of research, we said, “Yes, let’s do it!” and went!

What was the shoot like?

Joel: It was absolutely fantastic. The pre-wedding shoot did not feel like a shoot and more like a holiday adventure in Bali. That’s the best way to describe it. We had so much fun and laughter on top of it being like an adventure down to the very last day, rushing through the airport. The shots came up amazing as well!

When will the wedding be, and what are your plans for it?

Joel: The wedding is going to be on the 29 December this year, and we just hope it’s a fun filled event for all our close friends and family. For planning, the SingaporeBrides wedding checklist has been immensely helpful.

Get Ready for these Things When Planning Your 2019 Wedding

Wedding planning tips for anyone getting married in 2019 (and don’t know where to start).

So 2019’s free trial month of January is over, and it’s time to get serious about the year’s goals. Number one, planning your wedding. Since it’s your first time, we’ve got some tips for you. Get ready for these things to happen when you’re planning your wedding.

1. Not knowing how to get started.

We got you. Check out our top 2018 lists of the wedding vendors you’ll need, to get your wedding planning started.

2. You can forget to focus on the things that matter.

Most brides start wedding planning on a Pinterest board, and with all the pretty pictures and fun ideas—confetti-filled balloons! personalised succulent favours! writing a message on the bottom of your shoes!—it’s easy to obsess over the little details and forget about the big ones. Before you burn yourself out trying to incorporate every single trend into your wedding, try to take a step back and start with the things that make a big impact, like, you know, a venue.

3. There’s no 100% pleasing everyone (or your wallet).

If you had no budget restrictions, you could probably hold an intimate garden wedding to please yourself, then a 500-strong wedding banquet to please your family, and finally a destination after-party in a private pool villa with free-flow alcohol to please your friends.

4. Even “simple” weddings require a lot of planning skills.

Start with our wedding checklist, tailored to Singaporean weddings. It’s broken down into a hierarchy of importance, so NO asking for florist quotes on your puppy-bouquet floral collars before finding a venue that allows pets.

5. You don’t need to feel obligated to involve everyone in the wedding.

Don’t feel like you need to take up your cousin’s offer to beatbox, your new in-law’s offer of their child for a flower girl, or your colleague’s offer to decorate your wedding “for a friendship price” if you don’t want to. Thank them graciously and say you’ve already made plans.

6. Three months before the wedding, you’ll be buried under an avalanche of wedding planning details.

For a long time after getting engaged, you might be like, “Wedding planning is going to be easy because we’re so chill.” Two to three months before your wedding date, you’re going to be hit by seating arrangements, décor being delivered too late, invitation printing deadlines, and a host of other little logistical details. We warned you.

7. You don’t need to have a big wedding party just because everyone else is having one.

And you definitely don’t need a big bridal party because of the photos. Yes, all the images of bridal parties you’ve ever seen on Pinterest or Instagram involve at least five groomsmen and five perfectly matched or perfectly mis-matched bridesmaids, but if you just want to have your sister stand up beside you on your wedding day, that’s fine too! And don’t feel like you MUST have an equal number of bridesmaids and groomsmen, or have all girls on your Bride Squad and only guys on Team Groom.

8. You might feel the pressure of wedding trends.

You don’t have to hold an intimate outdoor garden wedding with a llama ring bearer just because it’s the cool thing to do. Your guests will enjoy themselves even if you don’t have a massive dessert table/ice cream bar/donut wall. Only follow the trends you actually want to! Hold a wedding that’s you!

9. You don’t need to DIY everything. Or anything.

It might seem like it’s morally superior to DIY things like wedding favours—“It’s so much more personal and heartfelt!”—but unless you enjoy crafting, you shouldn’t feel like you need to. Your guests won’t be like, “How dare you not take calligraphy lessons to inscribe my name on one of 200 place cards!”

10. Everyone has an opinion on your wedding.

Your BFF, your grandmother, your colleague, your client, the aunty you buy chicken rice from. Once you tell people you’re getting married, be prepared for A LOT of opinions on what you should do for your wedding.

11. Your wedding day schedule will require military precision.

At 0400 hours, you’ll probably be up for makeup. To get an idea of what a wedding day involves, check out our customisable wedding day schedules for two common wedding scenarios in Singapore. You can adapt it for your own wedding needs.

12. Joining local wedding planning groups can be a great resource for reviews and recommendations.

Local wedding planning groups like the SingaporeBrides Forum, or Whatsapp groups for Brides of 2019 or Brides of 2020 are great places to ask for recommendations on vendors, compare package deals, pick up wedding items second-hand, or simply find people who actually understand what you’re going through.

9 Gorgeous Fall/Winter 2019 Wedding Dress Trends You Have to See

Preview the latest crop of 2019 wedding dresses by Singapore’s foremost wedding dress designers and bridal boutiques in our Fall/Winter 2019 Lookbook!

Our Fall/Winter 2019 Lookbook is filled with the season’s newest and most beautiful wedding dresses by amazing designers and boutiques in Singapore. This season, we’re seeing some new wedding dress trends inspiring the designs, while old trends take on a fresh twist.

A classic wedding dress material, this season lace becomes much more delicate and ethereal. Blush still reigns as the most romantic colour, but toned down to the merest hint this season. New trends emerged as well, such as playfully exaggerated sleeves in cloud-like layers of tulle. Ball gowns are given a fresh take, with clean lines and ballerina-inspired bodices. The designers also took inspiration from the Duchess Meghan Markle’s minimalist wedding dress and reception dress, with sleek, unadorned silhouettes. Brides getting married in 2019, these are the latest 2019 wedding dress trends you need to know!

1. Delicately Layered Lace

Lace is a timeless fabric choice of wedding dress designers, and we’ve seen many lace fashions over the seasons. From the bold, almost geometric baroque designs favoured just a few years ago, lace wedding dresses have transformed yet again, this time taking a delicate and ethereal style. Layering beautiful floral designs with modern polka-dotted lace and ethereal tulle, and cut in clean silhouettes, 2019’s lace wedding dresses capture grace and femininity in a contemporary style.

Divine Couture Silhouette the Atelier WhiteLink Bridal

2. Playfully Exaggerated Sleeves

Big, exaggerated sleeves make a statement this season, keeping a light and whimsical feel with fluffy layers of tulle. Brides who are looking for a different silhouette, this is a great way to express your style.

My Dream Wedding WhiteLink Bridal

3. A Hint of Blush

Blush has been romancing the hearts of brides for years now, and shows no signs of stopping. This season, we see the hue in delicate shades that just barely offset white lace designs, or peek out from a fishtail skirt’s godets to add a breath of fresh colour to traditional white.

Alisha & Lace Jawn Happy.Ever.After Flamingo Bridal Dang Bridal Divine Couture

4. 3D Florals

Floral applique has adorned many a wedding dress, but this season, we see the trend in three dimensions. The 3D florals give the gowns a beautiful texture, and the illusion of flowers floating down upon a bride on a breezy spring day.

La Belle Couture Z Wedding The Wedding Present

5. Showing Some Skin

The illusion wedding dress trend isn’t going anywhere yet, but we’re also seeing subtler ways to show some skin. A tulle cut-out at the waist or a fun crop top can be ways to bare a little skin without revealing too much.

Beautiful Love Wedding Yvonne Creative Bridal

6. Vintage Romance

We’re also seeing a return to classic silhouettes and styles. Vintage necklines like the portrait or a bateau in lace frame the face in a timeless elegance. Scrolling baroque details hint at Renaissance romance, while floral lace give a bohemian, seventies vibe.

Beautiful Love Wedding Yvonne Creative Bridal Dang Bridal Flamingo Bridal Alisha & Lace

7. Allover Sparkle

Seen on many bridal fashion runways, the allover sparkle wedding dress trend has gowns shimmering in full sequins, beading, or subtle and ethereal glitter.

Luna Bianca Jawn Happy.Ever.After Silhouette the Atelier

8. Modern Ball Gowns

Inspired by the royalty of yesteryear with their grand ball gown skirts and luxurious layers, this season takes the princess silhouette and makes it modern by juxtaposing the big skirts with clean bodices in plunging v-necks, or petite ballerina-like corsets.

La Belle Couture Luna Bianca Z Wedding

9. Meghan Markle Minimalism

Minimalism has been a rising wedding dress trend for a while now, and the Duchess Meghan Markle’s stunning wedding gown choices a few months ago made the trend even hotter. This season, we see local designs inspired by sleek, chic, minimalist lines.

The Grand Marquee is the largest outdoor marquee venue in Singapore, where glass walls offer views of lush greenery to create a garden setting in air-conditioned comfort. Lit by elegant chandeliers, the Grand Marquee unveiled the 2019 Infinite Romance theme, with floral arbours lined with fairy lights making a truly memorable aisle. Able to host a grand celebration with up to 550 guests, the Grand Marquee also features a VIP table that seats 20. Couples with a smaller wedding party can use the space for a decadent dessert table with pastries, cupcakes, and dessert shots. For more intimate garden solemnisations, couples can choose from poolside venues like the Sun Deck, dressed in the new Vintage Romance theme that day, or the Tisettanta Terrace with its garden views. Couples who love fairy lights will be charmed by the Salon Alfresco with its long, romantic aisle under the glittering lights.
