Winter Wedding Trends for 2018/2019
We’ve teamed up with International Wedding Planner and La Fête founder, Charlotte Ricard-Quesada, who has put together her top eight winter wedding trends if you’re getting married in 2019…
Celebrate the seasonal colour palette at your winter wedding by incorporating burgundies, bottle greens and amber tones into your big day.
Don’t just stop at the winter wedding décor: why not opt for those colours for your bridesmaids’ dresses, groomsmen’s bowties, or even, in a sash on your gown?
Smaller, Simpler Wedding Cakes
For your winter wedding, why not go down the minimal route with your cake? It doesn’t need to be huge to wow your guests – a simple tiered bake with dripped icing and dried fruit décor can be elegant and just as effective.
Just make sure to have trays of cake backstage so that all your guests can enjoy.
It may at first seem basic to display your seating plan on a blackboard, but there are many options to make it look extraordinary.
Think of hiring a chalkboard artist that can personalise the board with illustrations and calligraphy. You can also wrap the borders in foliage or flowers or display it on an easel, whatever you prefer.
A wedding dress no longer needs to be a dress in the traditional sense of the word. Go for separates, which will prove practical if your winter wedding is on an especially cold day.
Opt for cashmere, delicate knits and even capes, in your chosen colour for both warmth and a unique flair.
One of my favourite winter wedding trends is ceiling decoration. You can go beyond lanterns by hanging flowers, foliage covered hoops, antique keys, berries and moss-covered branches.
This is especially effective in marquees but be careful with ceiling heights, you don’t want to feel stifled between a busy floor and a busy ceiling.
Make the most of the season’s great culinary offerings: berry-filled pies, stews, soups, etc.
If keeping guests warm is a priority, why not go for traditional options such as coq au vin, or, put a spin on a classic, such as turning a beef hotpot into a more refined dish.

Why not choose liquor-filled truffles as favours? Alcohol and chocolate go notoriously well together and make for an indulgent bite.
Focus on Whiskey, Bailey’s and Brandy type flavours, or if there are any varieties that are special to you as a couple. You could also have a chocolate bar during the evening, instead of a sweet bar, where guests could choose their own selection from.
Lounge areas at weddings are often being designed around coffee bars now, where guests can take the weight off their feet and savour a hot drink: perfect for the season.
If coffee is not your thing, why not go for a tea bar instead or a hot chocolate bar?
